Hectic School Schedules?

Hey parents – now that your kids have been back to school for a couple weeks, it’s a great time to make sure their busy academic schedules aren’t getting in the way of YOUR healthy habits. Maintaining your fitness and health even when your kids’ school schedules become hectic can be tough. These tips help integrate health and wellness into daily routines in a manageable and enjoyable way.

Incorporate Family Fitness Time: After dinner, take a 20-30 minute walk together as a family. Plan active family outings on weekends, such as hiking, biking, or playing a sport together.

Healthy Meal Planning and Prep:

  • Spend a couple of hours on the weekend preparing healthy meals and snacks for the week. This ensures that nutritious options are always available, even on the busiest days.
  • Get your children involved in meal preparation. They are more likely to eat healthy foods if they helped make them.
  • Catalog and choose go-to recipes that are quick to prepare and require minimal ingredients. One-pot meals, sheet pan dinners, and slow cooker recipes can save time and effort.
  • Keep healthy snacks readily available, like pre-cut veggies, fruits, nuts, and yogurt. This makes it easier to grab something healthy on the go.

Use School Time Wisely: If your kids have extracurricular activities, use that time to fit in a workout. Walk or jog around the field while they practice. Do some squats on the sidelines. If you spend their practice time scrolling or chatting, try planning next week’s meals or making your shopping list instead.

Deep Breathing Exercises: Teach your kids simple deep breathing exercises they can do to relax and manage stress, which can be helpful for both parents and children.
We get it. Schedules are crazy. You got this.
