Chris Cornell
Sad news in the hard rock community – the loss of Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Audioslave fame. He took his own life after a performance Wednesday night.
I post this on the HMF page not only being a huge fan of his influential work for nearly three decades, but also as a reminder of how important our mental health is along with our physical health. I’ve come to find that almost everyone is struggling in their own ways in the modern world. Sadly many of us don’t express it or show it. No one is really alone. There is always someone out there who is going through the same thing. There is always help. Every single life can offer something to the world.

A quote from Chris to think about:
Cornell reflected on Soundgarden’s breakup. “I think that what caused us to split apart, rather than just take a hiatus, was just that the band had become a business,” he said, “and that business had somehow, in a sense, started to be able to dictate to us what, where, and how we were going to do things, whether we were into it or comfortable with it or not.”
Upon reading that, I can’t help but think that might be what his own life had become and it was just too painful. There are answers to be found for all of us within that thought.
A final positive quote from him, one that lives on with his music: Cornell said he offered minimal explanation for his songs because he wanted fans to come up with their own meanings.
“If I write a song and put it out there, it’s not mine anymore. It takes on a life of its own, and when you listen to it, it becomes your song. And over the course of generations, those meanings will change.”
